AJ Rock Flores

AJ Rock Flores is a legendary figure in the world of Tejano music. For over three decades, his dynamic drumming skills and infectious stage presence have entertained audiences around the globe. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, AJ was immersed in the vibrant Tejano music scene from a young age. He showed a natural aptitude for percussion from an early age and began formal lessons at age 12. By his teens, AJ was already performing professionally with several regional acts. It was during this time that he developed his signature fusion of Tejano rhythms with influences from rock, funk and cumbia.
AJ broke into the national spotlight in the 1980s after joining the renowned group Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz. Over the next 15 years, AJ helped propel Grupo Mazz to the forefront of the Tejano movement with his dynamic percussion work. The band achieved immense success, earning multiple Grammy wins and industry accolades. AJ's playing was hailed as integral to Grupo Mazz's innovative sound. Following his tenure with Grupo Mazz, AJ embarked on a prolific solo career.
He has since collaborated with an array of iconic artists across genres, including Kumbia Kings, Bobby Pulido, Ruben Ramos, Ricky Martin and Aretha Franklin. AJ has also toured extensively with Los Tigres del Norte, considered the biggest band in Latin America. To this day, AJ continues to share his deep passion for Tejano music through dynamic live performances and studio work. When not onstage, he works to preserve and promote the Tejano tradition through masterclasses, lectures and as an advocate.
AJ is rightfully inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame for his immense contributions. He now devotes himself to honoring Selena's memory through Dreaming of You - The Selena Experience.
